Preface The National Eligibility Testing programme began sometime in late 90s and since then much seatre has flown down this strategic stream of sifting the gr from the chieff both in the interest and quality of the human resource in higher education and the aspirants for the posts of teachers in the universities and colleges across the country. Passing the NET examination is mandatory for all candidates without exemption. The testing procedure had come under fire from several quarters on one or other account and certain changes too were incorporated from time to time accommodate various viewpoints, sometime on experimental basis. Significantly, the subjective part of the examination (in Paper III) of the examination was done away with and replaced with a 75-objective-type-question-paper with effect from 2013 presumably on the presumption that the pass-percentage in the subjective part had invariably been low in all subjects. There also was a mounting pressure from candidates and a section of teachers on this account. As the question-style in Paper II and Paper III was not much at variance, except for numerical strength of questions (50 and 75 respectively) in the the respective papers the hurriedly introduced novel experiment became counterproductive for the pass percentage in NET examination dramatically rose belying all estimations. Several reasons for this could were offered. As a result. most aspirants found an easy way of preparing for the examination using shortcut – not going through the text books. They banked on objective-type-question compilations that flooded the market in large numbersome good, most good-for-nothing. Except for a few “flukes”, most aspirants were observed trying their luck at the examination several times and yet not achieving their objective. In 2012, the UGC proposed to revise the NET examination syllabi. For this purpose, workshops in all included subjects were organized at Bangalore and a sincere exercise was done by the subject experts to update the syllabus content. Sadly, the implementation of the new syllabus was put on hold due to the reasons best known to the authorities that were. Instead a big surprise was sprung by doing away with the subjective part of the examination against all expectations and converting the subjective Paper III into an objective one as mentioned above. In a significant move, the UGC outsourced the conduct of NET examination to the CBSE with effect from 2015 due to certain administrative considerations. My UGC NET Digest on Physical Education (in two volumes) has been in circulation since 2009 with several reprints following. Without an iota of doubt, it has been very well received by the aspirants wishing to prepare for the NET examination. Over the years, I have received and even now continue receive profuse encomiums and complements from the well-meaning aspirants and teachers for the exceptionally good quality content and question framework presented therein. I absolutely had no intention of appreciating the short-cut takers and come out education for the period 2006-2026 but for the constant pestering from my w with a compilation of NET examination papers in the subject of physica close colleagues who genuinely felt for those who sat on the brink counting ripple and hoping against hope to get through the examination. People having neilles tutelage nor guidance from any source often try to take a detour. I was provide with a few copies of the previous examination question papers and the correc keys thereto as a courtesy of an esteemed friend. The rest I had to cull from different sources and weave this compilation web. When I came to add solved question papers for the years 2017 and 2000s to this complilation and went through the said question papers, it was appalling to find glaring mistakes, mis-spelt words, grammitically loose statement sentences wrong response options which showed that the paper setters had not been brone in the discharge of the sacred responsibility given to them as a result of which many candidates have had a harrowing experience. While framing questions it is important to do some homework and have correct information. Necessity is the mother of invention, no doubt. However, it was not my necessity but that of the young overenthusiastic NET aspirants which weighed pretty heavily on my mind and that of the publisher as well. I began with something preculiar in my mind but, on an abrupt and valuable suggestion from a well-wisher, switched over to something not intended at all. The whole scenario presented a different look but certainly not an odd one. I made an exhaustive study of each and every question statement in examination papers spreading over a twelve year span and tried my level best to paint a realistic picture, though unsavoury, as far as response-options are concerned. I do not rule out the possibility of some error occurring here or there through oversight but that is all inadvertent and beyond my control. Shri Lokesh Thani of the Sport Publication, Ansari Road, Darya Ganj, New Delhi has been impressing upon me all through to come out with the volume which could help the mediocre and resource-less student to try their luck at the NET examination gettng light from the objective type of questions set in the examination in the subject of physical education over years on end. Shri Thani’s intent and effort both have been a potential driving force behind this venture. I thank him profusely on this account. Patiala, November, 2026 M.L. Kamlesh
