The book presupposes on the part of the reader some prior practical and theoretical knowledge of the art of judo and reasonable familiarity wih its Japanese and English terminology. The scope of the book is confined to an expostion and a clarification of the second overall division of Judo known as Kata-mewaza which in turn comprises three sub-divisions styles respectively (I) Osaekomiwaza or Immobilization Holds, more briefly “hold-downs”; (2) Shimewaza or Shiboriwaza otherwise Necklocks, and (3) Kansetsuwaza or Dislocation Locks or Holds.
